Why that weird code thing?

After having had my email address openly published on my web site for several years I get insane amounts of spam in my mailbox. The mail server does a really good job in sorting the good from the bad, but I really want less spam. So I am using this simple "captcha" test in order to sort out spambots from human visitors.
